ARMISTICE COMMEMORATION.– In response to the Premier’s appeal to the Churches, the service in St. John’s Church on Sunday night will be specially applied to the Armistice Commemoration.

BODALLA RACES. – Our sports in the pretty little village of Bodalla are out with a £60 program of races for their picnic meeting on Boxing Day, Monday, 27th Dec., the nominations for which close on 14th prox.

CHURCH OF ENGLAND TENNIS CLUB.—This Club, which is also to have a junior branch for young people between the ages of 11 and 16, was formed at a well attended meeting on Tuesday night. Officers elected are— President, the Rector; Committee, Mrs. Ison, Mrs. Cheesman, Mr. Garrard and Mr. Isorf; Hon. Sec. and Treas., Mr. Jermyn. The annual membership fee was fixed at—gents 15/-, ladies 7/6, juniors and non playing members 5/-. The court is to be open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays for Juniors and Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for adults. It was decided to have membership in the club open to all, and not to limit it to attendants at St. John’s Church.

TRUE CHRISTIANITY.– When it became known that Mr. Harvison, auctioneer, Moruya, was in Hospital under a most serious and painful operation, those big-hearted auctioneers. Messrs. M. and J. O’Reilly, of Cobargo, at once wrote to his representative offering to undertake, at their own expense, all sales entrusted to him in any part of the district. Messrs. H. J. Thomson and Bede Heffernan made a similar kind offer.  This is what we call true Christianity.

MORUYA PARK.—A meeting of the Trustees of the Moruya Park was held at their rooms on Tuesday night. Thee were present Messrs. Harvison (chair), R.B. Heffernan, P.J. Gannon and A.F. Emmott, the secretary, Mr. J. McKeon, having sent a letter explaining his absence through a sprained ankle. Mr. Gannon, who was appointed to act as secretary for the meeting, read the minutes of previous meeting, which were adopted. In consequence of the lessee having householders’ stock out of the Park, notifying them that he wished to spell it for a short time, and householders’ objections to same, it was decided to write to the lessee drawing his attention to the condition embodied in his lease, that resident householders has the right to depasture one working horse and one milking cow on the Park on payment in advance of 1/6 and 1/- respectively. An application from Mrs. Atfield for permission to remove, at his own expense, a large tree growing in the Park, near her residence, was received. It was decided to allow this matter to stand over until the Trustees had inspected the tree, which is in dangerous proximity to the piggeries and show yards. Mr. Harvison was empowered to get the pink gate repaired as soon as possible.

EUROBODALLA SHIRE COUNCIL

Three tenders were received for the position of ferryman at Bateman’s Bay, and that of S. Fitzpatrick was recommended to the Minister for L. G. for acceptance.

S. Harkus’ tender being the only one for the Nelligen Ferry was recommended for acceptance as was the only tender, H. J. Bettini’s for Narooma Ferry recommended.

J. Coppin’s tender for part of reserve No. 29337 at the intersection of Lagoon and Shore Sts. was accepted, there being three applicants for same.

Correspondence Dealt With. From C.R. Stubbs, Moruya, asking permission to erect the picket fence in front of the Methodist Church property in Page St. Request granted.

From H. Waters, Moruya, asking permission to erect a smoke room at the Freezing works for curing fish.  Request granted.

THE MUSEUM IS REOPENING AND MDHS IS COVID SAFE

Moruya & District Historical Society is pleased to announce that it is re-opening on Wednesday 25thNovember.

We are registered as a COVID safe venue and will be following the Government guidelines to keep all visitors and volunteers safe with contact tracing, sanitizing, and social distancing.

We are excited to be welcoming our members and the public back with two extremely interesting and informative exhibitions in the Museum.

Twenty one 100 years ago booklets containing articles for the years 1899 to 1919 are available ($6 to $8 ea) from the Museum.  Back copies of local newspapers can be viewed on microfilm at the Society’s Family History Research Library (Ph 4474 3224) situated at the rear of the Museum in Campbell St. Moruya.

The Moruya Museum houses a collection of furniture, books, artefacts and memorabilia that is intended to show visitors something of the lives of the ordinary people of this community from the middle of the nineteenth century. Most items on display were donated by local families.
