History of the MDHS

The Society formed in 1970, and in 1976 it purchased the heritage-listed building at 85 Campbell St Moruya, which houses the Moruya Museum. A small library was established and substantial restoration of the Campbell St property was completed with the help of grants.

In 1985 the local Genealogy Group merged with the Society, substantially increasing the Society’s capacity to undertake research into local history and family history.
