Members of the Bateman’s Bay Professional Fishermen’s Association defied the one hour limit on the public wharf on Wednesday and tied up for several hours to draw attention to the lack of facilities at the Bay. The fishermen are demanding support from the Eurobodalla Shire Council to have an area behind the breakwater, adjacent to the existing marina near Bateman’s Bay Marine Centre, dredged so that boats can use it as safe anchorage. ABC’s “This Day Tonight” team attended and conducted interviews between the fishermen and “A” Riding Councillor, Cr. Prior, for almost an hour.
The fishermen claim Council has been unsympathetic towards their requests for better facilities. C. Prior denied the accusation and stated that Council had applied to the Public Works Department for funds for improvements to the Coal Bunker wharf as requested by the fishermen, but that in general, Council would not favour commercial buildings on any wharf constructed behind the breakwall.

Locals living in the Moruya Heads vicinity have been amazed to witness so many early morning runners using their thoroughfare of late. It seems there are quite a few competitors in next Sunday’s Town to Surf race who are ensuring that they complete the eight kilometre run. Our spies tell us that the female sex has been well represented among the newly discovered joggers; male chauvinists beware!
