The Moruya Park Management Committee gave its formal approval last week to a plan for the future development of the Park. The showground has been re-arranged so that the football field and the rodeo area are separate. Removeable fences will allow rodeo activities to be staged without damaging the football field. The priority is to rebuild the Rodeo yards nearest the race track to make way for the widening of the track. The second priority is to prepare the remainder of the Showground and other facilities for the Centenary Show early next year.
Ed. Sez… Bateman’s Bay Police were confronted with a grave problem on Monday. Some timber cutters reported some freshly dug earth in the bush, which had all the appearance of a freshly dug, and filled in grave. The boys in blue were quickly on the scene with picks and shovels. Carefully removing soil, they found to their amazement they had uncovered a rubbish pit. The hole turned out to be the residue of an army camp which was vacated not too long ago.
At Sports afternoon on Wednesday, Moruya schoolboy, Steven Auld, 13, was accidentally struck above the left eyebrow when another student swung his club back to play a shot. Steven was taken to the Moruya District Hospital where several stitches were inserted in a deep gash above and beside his eye.
Straying dogs are still a problem at Narooma Central School. Action has been taken against persistent offenders among our canine friends and an improvement has been noticed. Owners of dogs which wander into the playground will be requested to prevent their dogs from entering the school ground. Failure to do so may result in the dog being impounded by the Shire Council.
The Eurobodalla Shire Council has sold the Bateman’s Bay Memorial Hall to the Commonwealth Bank for $65,000 to raise funds for the Hanging Rock Community Centre. Stage one of the new Centre will cost $173,177 and this will get it to ‘lock-up’ but with a concrete floor, not wooden. More funds need to be found so that the scheme can be completed according to original specifications.
Following on from his very fine performance in the F.S.C.D.G.A. Championships recently held in Narooma, in which he took out a good number of trophies, Club President, Jack Emmott, partnered by past President Roy McEgan, narrowly won the Thursday open Four Ball with 46 points, on a count-back from Len Kennelly and Michael Welsh. Jack also won the individual event with 40 points on a count back from Len Kennelly. George Sullivan won the nearest the pin.
