The South Eastern Regional Advisory Council Report of the Canberra-Bateman’s Bay Road Study states that the section of the road between Bateman’s Bay and Braidwood was of a much better standard than the remaining leg to Canberra. The report said that all of the section of the road between Queanbeyan and Braidwood should, where necessary, be reconstructed to acceptable standards for heavy vehicles and increased speed of traffic. The Study found that the average annual daily traffic total was just over 1,300, but on public holiday week-ends, rose to in excess of 4,000 vehicles.
A streetlight is to be installed to the Eastern boat ramp, Nelligen, at the request of the local Progress Association. The estimated cost is $280. At a previous meeting of Council, the Nelligen Progress Association was successful in its application for the supply of materials for a bus shelter for local school children.
The Eurobodalla Shire Council is to oppose the closure by the Lands Department of the Congo Point Caravan Park. It opposed the closure for four main reasons. These were that the site was attractive for campers; that a significant number of loyal patrons had been built up; that the Park provided safe swimming and fishing in a sheltered location; and finally, that the low capital investment in the area allowed for lower charges.
The Moruya granite quarry on the North Heads Road which provided rock for the pylons of the Sydney Harbour bridge and the G.P.O. building was in temporary use again last week. Contractors blasted at the quarry last week following almost a week of drilling. 4,000 tonnes of rock is required for the flood mitigation work facing along the northern bank of the Moruya River. No further blasting is expected but residents are warned not to inspect the area too closely until it has been made completely safe.
Despite strong windy conditions at the Narooma Golf Course on Wednesday, the first round of 19 holes of the President’s Trophy Cup brought out the best in some of the associates. In the pro’s ball competition, balls were won by J. Michael and V. Ferrier, 63 net, S. Douch and B. Mitchell, 68 net, M. Dufty and H. London, 69 net, P. Thomsen and P. Stewart, 70 net on a countback from P. Murphy and O. Rodgers.
The grand final of the Moruya Hockey Competition played by on Saturday was won by United, defeating Regals 4-1. It certainly was an entertaining game, and the standard of play was a credit to the umpiring by Shirley and Velma Bunt.
