Nine stonemasons and their families who arrived from England by the Pakeha last Saturday reached Moruya on Tuesday night. The arrival of these men will complete the quota arranged by Dorman, Long and Co. with the Federal authorities and the Stonemasons’ Union for work in the granite quarries in connection with the North Shore bridge.

Troubles never come singly. A week to the day after the death of Mr. and Mrs. T. Henry’s youngest son, the elder boy was operated on for the same complaint – appendicitis – by Drs. McCredie and Street. The patient, who is an inmate of the local hospital, is now progressing satisfactorily.

At the recent examination held by the Postal Dept., two young pupils of the Dwyer’s Creek Public School were successful, Albert Stubbs gaining first place for N.S.W., and Roy Stubbs sixth place for N.S.W. These bright boys and their clever teacher, Mr. V. Gale, Master of the School, are to be congratulated on the excellent achievement.

The death of Mr. John Bartlett, at the age of 81 years, took place at Bimbimbie on Friday night 16^th inst. Deceased, who had been ailing for some time, bore his sufferings with great fortitude and courage. Born in Devonshire, England, Mr. Bartlett, accompanied by his wife, came to this state in the early days of his married life, and settled in the Mogo district, where he resided ever since. Deceased leaves a grown-up family of sons and daughters.

By special telegraphic news which we received on Tuesday, it was officially announced that the Duke and Duchess of York will visit Australia to open the Federal Parliament at Canberra.

On Wednesday, Narooma’s Pilot Knott and “Skipper” Allan Rose voyaged to Montague Island to transport the Inspector of Lighthouses, Mr. Ford, and his staff of mechanics to the mainland after an absence of upward of a month. The task of installing the new light has just been completed, and the innovation of a third second flash, and seven seconds eclipse, was put into operation on the 10^th instant. Pilot Knott returned from his inspection convinced that the mechanism, etc., was a distinct improvement.

The usual monthly meeting of the Bateman’s Bay Parents and Citizens’ Association took place during the week, Mr. A. H. Annetts, President, presiding. It was agreed to have danger signals erected at about 50yds on each side of the school along the beach road for the protection of the children. A working bee was fixed to have the school grounds filled up and levelled.
