Messrs. A. H. Fox, L. E. Finch, J. Hansen, and S. Ryan have been appointed to fill the vacancies on the A. and P. Society’s committee caused through the resignation of Messrs. A. F. Emmott, E. A. H. Shepherd, A.H. Annetts, and the death of Mr. P. Flynn.
As Mr. J. S. Greig, of Bergalia, has decided to turn his property into a run for the “golden fleece” next year, he is disposing of his dairy herd and young stock. The sale will be conducted by H. J. Thomson on Saturday, 17th inst. Besides cattle there will also be offered horses, pigs, dairy utensils, and six months’ grass right of the paddock. The sale commences at 1 p.m. sharp, luncheon being provided at 12 noon.
The population of Australia now exceeds six million, and it is expected that it will double itself in about 20 years.

Through the new Workers’ Compensation Act there are already signs of a serious dislocation of the State’s industries. In the timber trade the toll of unemployed is daily increasing. Every mill on the south Coast, with the exception of Mitchell Bros., at Narooma, has closed down. Mr. Mitchell informs us that they will come to a decision today. They are faced with a serious problem, as closing their mills means throwing their steamer Kianga out of commission, thus depriving the Narooma residents of regular supplies of foodstuffs, etc.
The turning out of their many horse and bullock teams, the forage bill alone amounting to over £3000 per year, is another big consideration, but with the slackness of trade, and the consequent inability to pass along the added burden that the new Act will impose, Mr. Mitchell says there appears to be no alternative but to follow the economic policy of other sawmillers.
The football match – married v. single – was won by singles, the scores being 14 to 11. It was one of the best matches ever played on the local ground. About 300 people witnessed the game.
In Bateman’s Bay a Plume bowser has been erected in front of Mr. A. H. Annetts’ residence, and a Shell bowser at Mr. Baghurst’s motor garage.
The principal difficulty in connection with the new system of selling petrol from bowsers is that house wives will experience a shortage in rubbish tins.
