Under the new Workers’ Compensation Act “every share farmer, and every worker, whether a member of the share farmer’s family or not, employed by any share farmer shall, for the purpose of the Act, be deemed to be a worker employed by the owner of the farm.”

It has been suggested that a statue or bust of Sir Austin Chapman, who was more responsible than any other Australian for securing the Federal Capital site, should be provided by Eden-Monaro Electorate to be placed in the new House of Parliament.

On Saturday evening last the Parents and Citizens of Bateman’s Bay assembled to clear the upper portion of the playground which is thickly wooded. Big trees were felled and the undergrowth cut away. It is proposed to put down a tennis court, when the work is completed. This speaks volumes for the interest taken by the Parents and Citizens in their school.

The first industry to feel the effects of the new Workmen’s Compensation Act in this district is rabbit trapping. Mr. J. D. Ward, the South Coast’s leviathan skin buyer, is recalling all his traps now out on hire. Through this Soviet-like law, he is also compelled to give up his rights for the trapping on certain paddocks. As Mr. Ward has been giving employment to over 60 men here, his forced decision (through the heavy responsibility and expense he would entail by carrying on) is to be regretted, but unfortunately it is only one of the many industries, not only in this district, but throughout the whole State which will be affected by one of the most one sided Acts ever placed in the Statute Books.
AMUSU THEATRE. To-night, Saturday. The greatest picture program ever presented, something altogether different and novel. First, THE DIXIE HANDICAP, a snappy swift moving comedy drama of the gamest race of thoroughbreds, featuring Claire Windsor, Frank Keenan and Lloyd Hughes. Also, THE SCARLET WEST, featuring Robert Frazer and Clara Bow, and 4,000 real Indians, a flaming drama that will stir you as never before.
