The Police Bowls Day held at the Moruya Golf Club was an outstanding success, resulting in more that $1,000 being raised for special equipment for the Moruya Hospital. Given what could only be described as the perfect weather for bowling, at least one hundred and five bowlers turned up for the day, and the two greens were occupied from 10 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Miss Tacon, President of the Hospital Auxiliary, was presented with a cheque for $1,000 to purchase a special piece of equipment needed by the hospital, and which is not normally provided.

Mr. Ray Luck of Moruya Beach was walking along Pedro Beach last week when he came across a piece of wreckage which he believes could be from the ship, Kameruka, which was wrecked in 1897. Mr. Luck took the piece to the Eurobodalla Historical Society Museum in Moruya, and the members will endeavour to trace the origins of this piece of wreckage. No one from the Historical Society has publicly expressed an opinion on the latest find.

Last Wednesday, President Noel Miners and Treasurer Merv Fuller of Moruya Lions Club had the pleasure of presenting a new portable wheelchair to Mrs. Irene Thorpe, as President of Moruya Red Cross Society. The wheelchair, which cost $256, is light, collapsible and easily transported, and equipped with shock absorbers.

Just after dark on Sunday night, cries for help were heard coming from an island off Sunpatch Beach. The Moruya Surf Club was alerted, and about 7.30 p.m. Ron and Col Chesher took the boat out into the darkness to investigate the calls. At the island they found a lone fisherman, who having waded out earlier in the day, was trapped by the tide. It is believed that he injured his ankle, preventing him from leaving earlier, and he had to call for help. Only for the fact that his calls were heard, and two volunteers were prepared to go out into the night, there could have been a tragedy.

The District Poultry Show will be held at Moruya Showground this Saturday. Barry Crapp, secretary, says he anticipates at least 600 entries this year. It is the 18th annual show. There will be a big variety of poultry and anyone who is interested is welcome to come along and see some of the fascinating entries.

Telecom Australia has set December 1976 as the target date for completion of the necessary transmitter and lines for the Moruya-Narooma area in order to improve the radio service. The ABC is also planning completion of the studio switching facilities in its Bega office to coincide with that date.
