The Eurobodalla Shire President, Cr. Ken Mackay, in the presence of approximately 200 people, officially opened the John Kornfeld Memorial Y.M.C.A. Camp at Long Beach, six miles north of Bateman’s Bay. The Camp is in fifty-three acres of bushland, only two hundred yards from the beach, and accommodates one hundred and three people in fourteen concrete brick chalets. The land was a gift to the Y.M.C.A. by Mr & Mrs F.J. Kornfeld in memory of their son John, who was killed in a car accident when only 21 years of age. John was a member of the Y.M.C.A. and this project would recognise the work that this promising young man did for the organisation. The Camp is available for use by Youth Groups throughout the whole of New South Wales.

Irene Alice “Rene” Harrison nee Louttit died of a heart attack while attending a party given to her by friends to celebrate her 68th birthday. Rene was the second daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Abraham Louttit, and a sister of Miss Bernice Louttit of Goulburn, Mrs E. Cowdroy of Cronulla, Harry Louttit of Moruya and Roy Louttit of Broulee. She left Moruya aged 17 to become a teacher, married Jim Harrison, and eventually became Deputy Principal of South Strathfield Infants Department in Sydney before retirement in 1967.

Two well known Bodalla families were united on Saturday when Yvonne, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Roy Constable, wed Phillip, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Perce Motbey. The ceremony was held at All Saints Church, Bodalla, and the reception was held at the Highway Motel, Narooma, where 60 guests joined the wedding party. A beautiful wedding cake made by George Callendar, was the centre piece of the bridal table.

A little over a fortnight ago the McCauley family narrowly escaped death when their Nelligen homestead burnt to the ground in the middle of the night. Then, this past week, Fred and his wife had another narrow brush with death when a truck driver allegedly rammed their Holden ute (one of the few possessions not destroyed in the fire) and forced it off the highway and over a bank between Mogo and Moruya. “First he hit me with his bumper bar, then the driving wheels of his prime mover, and lastly with the wheels of his trailer,” said Mr McCauley. Mrs McCauley said the last seen of the truck, it was headed down the road with a passenger looking back out of a window. Moruya police have charged a Nowra driver with negligent driving over the incident.
