Malcolm Alexander, a student of Mruya High School, has been given a scholarship which gives him automatic entry to Duntroon Military College when he finishes school at the end of this year. Malcolm, aged 17 years, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Graham Alexander, well-known Moruya business people. The scholarship was presented by Captain Russel of No. 2 Army Recruitment Unit at Moruya High School on Tuesday afternoon, and is the first one of its kind to be awarded to this school.

Legislation was approved in the House of Representatives on Friday enabling local stations 2BE Bega and 2ST Nowra to service Narooma, Bateman’s Bay, Ulladulla and Milton.
Difficulty is being experienced by motorists in gaining kerbside parking to attend to business at the Post Office in Bateman’s Bay. In an endeavour to improve conditions, arrangements are being made for 90-degree angle parking for vehicles under 6 metres only, limited to 15 minutes during business hours, Monday to Friday, to be provided on the southern side of Church Street, between points 6 metres and 28 metres west of the Prince’s Highway.
Mrs. Flo Ladd, one of the original members of the Broulee Ladies Fire Brigade Auxiliary, made a first for the Auxiliary when she was presented with a Life Membership for her loyalty and her consistent work. At the monthly meeting congratulations were extended to her by all present. Mrs. Ladd and Mrs. Yates gave a short history of the Auxiliary. The first meeting was held on Mrs. Burton’s verandah in 1965. Subsequent meetings were held at Mrs. Fatchers and the late Mrs. J. Williams homes until the Fire Station was built in 1967.
Moruya Golf Club staged a 4 Ball Aggregate Stableford event on Saturday and the winners were Bill Pratt and K. Mitchell, with 70 points. Runners up were Reg Murphy and Peter Duncan also on 70. Reg must have run hot in the individual scores as the handicapper saw fit to promptly reduce his handicap by 3. It required 68 or better to win a ball, and these were won by W. Pratt, K. Mitchell, P. Duncan, R. Murphy, M. Flynn, S. Johnston, A. Bradley and D. Clifford.
Mr. John Douch approached the NSW Trotting Control Board in Sydney last week in connection with the proposed trotting club in Narooma. Following advice from the board, a meeting will be held in the Ex-servicemen’s Club on Thursday night for the purpose of forming a committee. Any interested persons will be welcome to attend.
