
Owing to the coal strike, the dredge Ballina has been forced to stop operations in our river. Her crew has been transferred to the dredge Neptune, which is now making rapid progress up the channel.
Mr. C. H. Welsh, butcher, of Tilba Tilba, is investing in a Ford chassis body for a light delivery truck to be built by W. W. Fong, of Tilba Tilba.

The Postal Director has announced that new postal notes of denominations of 6s and 11s are to be introduced. Sixpenny and 10s 6d notes are to be discontinued.
The drivers of Bartlett’s big service cars have had a trying time during the week owing to the greasy state of parts of the road between here and Nowra. However, they reach Moruya each night very little behind time, except on Tuesday night, when a rim flew off one of the wheels and disappeared into the bush, causing a delay of a few hours. The driver walked into Termeil, a distance of two miles, and phoned Milton for another car.

The death took place at Tuross on Sunday of Mr. Elijah Bown at the patriarchal age of 96 years. He was one of the oldest residents of this district having lived here for 75 years. Born in Somersetshire, England, in 1830, he came with his wife (a sister of the late Mr. Anthony White of Turlinjah), to Australia in 1851. The first ten years were spent at Kiora where he worked for the late Mr. Jacob Luck, grandfather of Mr. George Luck, of Yarragee. It was here his first wife died, and afterwards he married Miss Catherine Calligan. In 1861 he took up land at Turlinjah, where he built a comfortable home and engaged in farming pursuits.
Some few years after his second wife died and he then wedded Miss Nellie Gibbons (a sister of the late Mrs. W. Coman, of the Burra), the issue of each marriage being three children. He was a hard working and industrious citizen. For his many years of valuable work, Mr. Bown was made a life-member of the A. & P. Society. He leaves five sons and two daughters, Messrs. Joseph (Quaama), Elija (Turlinjah), Henry (Bergalia), Cletus (Tuross), and Etherington (Bermagui), Mrs. (Mary) Graham and Miss Bessie Bown. Mrs. Bown and two children by a former marriage predeceased him.
