The Hon. T. D. Mutch, Minister for Education, has considered presentations from Messrs. Dorman, Long and Company, who desire the establishment of a Public School in connection with the new quarries recently opened by them at Granitetown, via Moruya. He has decided that a building to accommodate 50 pupils will be erected with as little delay as possible on a site made available for that purpose.
At a gathering of Returned Soldiers held after the Memorial Service on Anzac Night, it was decided to form a club called “Moruya and District Returned Soldiers Social Club” the object of which being to foster good fellowship and comradeship existing between all armed services during the Great War. Capt. Lizieri was elected President, Mr. H. H. Kennedy Secretary, and Mr. C. Love Treasurer. It is intended to hold social evenings when the many returned soldiers of the district can meet one another and discuss their many and varied experiences while on active service, and also to hold an Annual Dinner.
The first auction sale of cattle for a long time was conducted by H. J. Thomson on Saturday, when he disposed of a large number of Mr. J. Buckley’s dairy herd at satisfactory prices. Over 100 head were yarded, and cows brought to £6 10s, and young stock from £2 10s to £3.
It is with deep regret that we record the death of Mr. James W. McIntosh, of Kiora, at the age of 50 years. The late Mr. McIntosh had been in indifferent health for some time, and, as more serious complications intervened, he resolved to go to Sydney. Being admitted to Lewisham Hospital, he received the best of medical treatment, but without avail, and the poor fellow passed away on Wednesday afternoon, the cause of death being internal trouble. Deceased was engaged in share farming on the Hawdon Estate, Kiora. He leaves a widow (a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Josiah Taylor, Kiora) and family of five, the oldest being 15 years and the youngest nine months. He is also survived by three brothers, John, (Moruya), David (Mantle Hill), and Charles, and five sisters, Mesdames H. Lavis, sen., J. Colefax (Gundary), J. Turner (Mynora), J. Green (Mantle Hill), and Ransby (Narara). The body was brought from Sydney on Thursday and placed in St. John’s Church, Moruya, from whence the funeral left on Friday for interment in the local cemetery.
