Special Exhibition: 3 January – 31 May 2024

Step into the past with A Woman’s Lot, an exhibition that offers a captivating peek into the lives of women during the early 1900s.
This era marked a fascinating transition from tradition to modernity, as women embraced expanding roles in the community while still retaining their traditional duties at home.
Women were expected to marry, raise families and take care of the home. Housework was arduous and time-consuming, and almost exclusively a woman’s lot.
However by 1900, the advent of machines was starting to ease the burden. And sometimes there were moments of relaxation to enjoy a cup of tea, reading a book or making some lace.
Fashion was evolving from the elaborate Victorian era to simpler styles. Weddings were special occasions where women could showcase their finest attire and celebrate with their loved ones. It was always important to put one’s best foot forward, and travel was done in style – hats and gloves were a must, and dont forget the pearls!
