Moruya “Wedding” – Mardi Gras, January 1967

A “wedding” involving many Moruya personalities took place at the Moruya Mardi Gras in January 1967. The following is a report from “The Moruya Advertiser” of 11thJanuary 1967:

The marriage of Miss Dora Cabbage (Rev. R. Grant) daughter of Mr Cabbage (Mr Ted Street) and Mrs Cabbage (Bruce Rawlings) to Mr Peter Pumpkin (Shirley Lamont) took place at the Moruya Mardi Gras last Saturday afternoon. The minister (Dawn Greig) carried out her duties efficiently. The bride arrived at the dais in an old fashioned buggy, on the arm of her father. She wore a gown of white lace embroidered with a 100 year old necklace across the neckline, and her train was of satin frills and she carried a bouquet of white roses. Her lovely tulle veil was held in place with a circlet of tiny roses. She was attended by bridesmaids Kevin Forest who wore a lemon ensemble trimmed with black lace, and Ron Chesher, who wore a grey and orange ensemble. They each carried a bouquet of yellow roses and their white hats were decorated with white tulle and yellow roses. The groom was attended by Jenny Evans (best man) and Sue Sykes (groomsman).

Mrs Cabbage wore a blue and white silk gown and Mrs Pumpkin (Ian Croker) wore a green and white silk gown. She was accompanied by her husband (Jenny Connors).

The flower girl (Peter Burke) wore an ankle length lemon net dress, and half circle head-dress with trailing lemon tulle and she carried a bouquet of white roses. The page boy (Gabriel Nader) carried a white cushion with the wedding ring resting on it. Male members of the bridal party wore dress suits and top hats. The bride dressed in blue lace and white stole for her going away outfit, and the happy couple left on a two year’s honeymoon in Hondlulli.
