The Moruya & District Historical Society formed in 1970. In 1976 the Society purchased its current heritage-listed home at 85 Campbell St Moruya. A small library was established and substantial restoration of the Campbell St property was completed with the help of grants.
In 1985 the Genealogy Group merged with the Society. This substantially increased the Society’s capacity to undertake research into local history and family history.
Today the Society provides 3 main services to the community:
- Preservation, curation and display of the museum collection of objects
- Family history research and resources
- Local history research
Additionally the Society maintains the heritage-listed property and surrounding buildings at 85 Campbell St. The work of the Society is supported by memberships, volunteers, grants and donations.
