
It may interest mining men, and the many ex-miners of this district who have in the past, delved into “hard country” to hear that the rock blasting done during the past 4 ½ months in repairing flood damages upon the Moruya via Kiora to Araluen Road, consumed the following explosives, viz. gelignite. 99 packets to 112 packets; fuse 103 coils to 107 coils; and detonators, about 10 or 11 boxes. Most of the rock was hard and tough and some of it extremely so.
Constable Mair, who met with a severe accident when in the act of mounting his horse a few weeks ago, is slowly improving, but it will be a considerable time before he will be able to resume duties at Nerrigundah.
President Flood, Crs. A. H. Annetts, R. J. Anderson, H. J. Bate and C. Gough attended the first monthly meeting of the Eurobodalla Shire Council for 1926. Correspondence was dealt with: From Main Roads Board enclosing agreement and voucher for £220 for re-decking Coila Bridge; From Navigation Dept. re wharf at Bateman’s Bay. The Engineer was instructed to report and estimate the cost of repairs, and at same time to apply for assistance on a basis of £1 for £1; From Minter, Simpson and Co., enclosing plan and instrument of deviation of road near proposed bridge near Silo Farm, Bodalla; From J. E. Neilson, Mosquito Bay, tendering for the Bateman’s Bay sanitary service at 9d per pan; From S. W. Bate, re road from Marshmead to Bermagui, and from John McMillan, re Dunshea’s wharf.
Nerrigundah. (From our Correspondent) The Catholic Ball held in the Nerigundah School of Arts was a great success although the weather conditions were most unfavorable, visitors were present from Bateman’s Bay, Cobargo, Eurobodalla and Yourie, and those people must be congratulated. The card dance which caused a great deal of merriment was won by W. Jessop (prize a box of 50 cigarettes) and Miss Noeline Byrne (prize a pair of lady’s silk stockings). Mr. O’Toole, who acted as M.C. thanked those who attended under such trying conditions.
The Narooma cricket team visited Nerrigundah on Sunday 3rd, and after an enjoyable game the home team had a decided victory by a margin of 301 even though the Narooma team included two Sydney first graders, in the persons of Kyle and Hicks who, however, although excellent batsmen, made little difference to the result.
Rev. J. Benson, of St. Saviour’s Cathedral, Goulburn, has been appointed Rector of Bodalla and is expected to arrive next week.
