Housewives appreciate Mr. H. J. Thomson’s enterprise in getting a supply of ice every week from Sydney. They are again able to use their ice chests which were put aside when the local freezing works ceased operations.
The death of Mrs. Celia Ann Rose, aged 93, took place on 22nd inst., at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Morris, Sydney. Deceased, who was a former respected resident of Mogo and Moruya, was the mother of a large family by her first husband (Mr. Sebbens) amongst whom are Mrs. A. Thomsen (Gundary) and J. Sebbens, snr. (Mogo). She is survived by her sister, Mrs. J. Innes, snr., of Mullenderree, and a number of grand and great-grand children.
The demolition of the unsightly old building near Key’s butchery and the replacement of up-to-date new shops which Mr. P. Flynn is having erected will greatly enhance the appearance of that part of town. [Moruya]
The Manager of the I.S.N. Co. notified the local agent that as Captain Graham, of the dredge Neptune, did not expect to have the river sufficiently deepened for the Narani to berth at the chutes this week, the steamer would discharge the Moruya cargo at Bateman’s Bay. Next week, however, the steamer will unload as usual at the chutes.
Work on the Kiora-Araluen road is proceeding apace, and maintenance men J. Burke and C. Millikin expect to have the contract completed by Christmas.
The following pupils of Mrs. A. H. Preddey successfully passed the London College of Music examination conducted by Mr. J. W. Pople recently: – Elementary, Iris Crapp and Lorna Rose, piano. Intermediate, Amy Anderson, piano. Violin Intermediate, Marie Preddey. We congratulate the painstaking teacher and her clever pupils on their achievements.
Australia and Canberra are the names selected by the Federal Cabinet for two new cruisers being built for the Australian navy.

The Commercial Travellers’ Carnival took place at Bateman’s Bay on Saturday last under showery weather conditions. The procession commenced at the Ferry. There were a number of decorated cars, cycles and novel turn-outs in the procession which was headed by the police and the Bateman’s Bay Brass Band. On reaching MacKay Park a number of sporting events were held. Some of the motor contests were very exciting. Visitors attended from Moruya and the surrounding districts. A successful ball was held at night.
