Mr. J. Needham, contractor, and his assistant, Mr. T. Martin have finished their work of painting the local Post Office and residence. They have also vastly improved the external appearance by dressing the office in a new Spring coat of stone shade with brown facings.
Master-whaler George Davidson and crew made their third and best capture at Eden on Sunday by capturing a fine black (“right”) whale. It is expected to yield from 5 to 6 tons of oil (worth up to £200) and a large quantity of valuable whale-bone.
The banns of marriage between Mr. Arch Barclay, of Bateman’s Bay, and Miss Ethel Lipscombe, of Bodalla, were announced for the first time at the Sacred Heart Church, Moruya, last Sunday.
The Centennial Hall was gay on Friday night when the children’s plain and fancy and paper ball was held. It was the second of a similar kind held in connection with the Moruya Public School. The hall was not nearly big enough to hold the large number of juveniles as well as the adults who attended. Some of the children’s dresses were very pretty, and had evidently been given much time and thought; others were humorous and suggested the working out of the child’s own idea. The ladies delighted the hearts of the little ones by regaling them with a sumptuous repast of tea cakes and soft drinks.

A team of Narooma riflemen met the Bergalia team on the local range last Saturday in a match for the “Millen” Challenge Shield. The visitors had an easy victory, winning by 33 points. For Narooma R. Fuller and R. Thomsen tied for first place with an aggregate of 69 each. F. Hutchings was leading for Bergalia with 66.
At a meeting held in the Shire Hall on Monday night a motion was carried to the effect that a swimming club would be formed. On those present intimating that they would become members the following officers were elected: President – Mr. C. DeSaxe; Vice-presidents – Dr. McCreadie, Messrs. O. J. Armstrong, G. Mitchell: Treasurer – Mr. L. Finch; Secretary – Mr. K. Fowler. The fee was fixed as follows: – Gents 5s, ladies 2s 6d. The following committee were elected with full power to act for the club until the by-laws are drawn up: – Messrs. R. Love, P. Feneley, J. Harris, B. Colefax, F. Knight, L. Walker, E. A. H. Shepherd.
On Monday morning St. John’s Church was the scene of a very pretty wedding, when Dorothy, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luck, of Kiora, was married to Cecil, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Dowling, of Bega. Bateman’s Bay will be the future home for the happy couple.
