
Dr. Bradfield and Mr. Ennis (general manager) paid a visit of inspection to Dorman, Long’s granite quarry works last week end, and were very pleased with the progress that is being made in the erection of buildings and installation of machinery at Pompey Point.
Carrying with them the heartiest good wishes for their future happiness and prosperity, Dr. and Mrs. H. M. Cutler left Moruya at noon on Tuesday. Travelling in their own car they hoped to reach Canberra the same evening. Prior to taking up his position as junior partner to Dr. Dight, the well-known Macquarie Street X-Ray specialist, Dr. Cutler intends to spend a short time with friends at Cootamundra.
Mr. Albert Lynch has purchased Mrs. J. Egan’s cottage at Mullenderee where he will once again set up housekeeping, with Miss Mary Morris in charge. Mr. Lynch will carry on his business at Mr. Mylott’s bakery until Mr. Weatherby has the proposed bake house on the Prince’s Highway erected.
A public meeting convened by Mr. G. W. Mitchell for the purpose of arranging a suitable way of recognizing Mr. C. Carter’s valuable services to the district, took place in the Shire Hall on Monday evening. The large and representative gathering was eloquent testimony to the worth of Dwyer’s Creek’s popular teacher and our town’s energetic general secretary. … Mr. Carter will take over the charge of Bateman’s Bay Public School on Monday next, but owing to the incompleteness of the repairs to the private dwelling, Mr. Carter and his family will not leave Moruya to take up residence there for fortnight.
A cottage owned by Mr. Robb, and occupied by Mr. F. Sparrow at Bateman’s Bay, was burnt with its contents last week.
The marriage of Mr. Alex Boyle, Moruya and Nerrigundah, and Miss Myrtle Veitch took place at Mogo on Wednesday, the Rev. R. J. Cashin officiating.
Mitchell’s (Narooma) and Fenning’s (Bateman’s Bay) mill are supplying the timber for Dormon, Long’s cottages now in course of erection at Pompey Point.
Capt. Cuthbert, of the Marine Underwriters, arrived on Thursday night to supervise the floating of the steamer Bermagui from her present position behind the training wall into the channel. An attempt was to have been made last evening, and if successful Captain Jackson will later on try to navigate our sadly neglected river.
Mr. J. McKeon returned from Sydney on Monday night, and is now engaged in bailing flood water out of his mine at Dwyer’s Creek, in readiness for a visit of inspection from a mining expert.
