With the exception of one bad swampy stretch the road to Broulee via Tomakin is in very fair motoring order. A trifling expenditure on this route to the pick of our beauty spots would make a delightful drive.

Mr. A. H. Weatherby has increased his holdings by purchasing the piece of land (known as Graham’s Corner) – corner of Vulcan and Queen Streets, from Mr. A. Graham, Braidwood. It is Mr. Weatherby’s intention to build on the lately acquired property.

Fresh immigrants are arriving by each steamer from the Home-land and the New Settler’s League, Sydney, will be glad to furnish to farmers particulars concerning laborers. In many instances, married couples with families are available. A list of such immigrants may be seen at this office.

Mr. C. Carter, Secretary of Moruya Progress Association, has been advised that during Easter week two teams from the Metropolitan Life Saving Clubs will visit the South Coast for the purpose of giving instruction in life saving where surfing is indulged in. No. 1 Team will visit Moruya, Bermagui, Pambula, Tathra and Eden. … The tour is being undertaken at the express desire of the Government as two similar teams had done very successful propaganda work on the North Coast beaches of this State last year.

Mr. A. H. Preddy, who intends to build on his property in Page St., has commenced to quarry stone from his lease-hold at Mantle Hill. This granite, we understand, is of an even superior quality to that at Pompey Point.

Commercial Hotel 1930 (Tooth Brewery cards, ANU)

Mr. J. King, Boniface of the Commercial Hotel, who advertised last week for a live fox, soon received a reply. Messrs. Alan Coppin and J. Green went a-hunting for Reynard at the week-end, and returned with two fine specimens, and netted the £1 reward offered by Mr. King. Dog-owners have now a chance to prove the merits of their canines in the hunt at St. Patrick’s Day sports on the 21st inst.

In about five weeks there will be an epidemic of influenza in the Commonwealth, and the public should be warned to take all precautions not to give or take infection. The Federal Director-General of Quarantine (Dr. Cumpston) issued this warning on Friday of last week. The disease is prevalent in Great Britain, he said, and invariably in the past an outbreak in Australia, has followed an outbreak in Great Britain as soon as ships arrive from the other side of the world carrying infection. We can do nothing to prevent, except ask the public to treat it as an infectious disease.
