There were registered in this State last year 62,471 cars, 11,970 motor lorries and 20,112 motor cycles. The figures show an increase of 25,000 motor vehicles over the last year.
The I. & S. C. S. N. Co., on Monday, received a cable advising that their new steamer, Bergalia, intended for the South Coast trade, left Suez on Wednesday last, en route from Glasgow to Sydney.
Owing to the abnormally high tides early on Monday morning the wharf presented quite a busy shipping appearance. The Illawarra Company’s Narani was discharging her weekly cargo, while the dredges Latona and Antleon were lying alongside.
The old established butchery business in Mogo, recently owned by John O’Brien, has changed hands. Mr. Arthur Annetts is the purchaser. Mr. Annetts has lately gone into partnership with his brother, Mr. A. J. Annetts, general provider.
Last week Mr. Harry Duncan, while conveying His Majesty’s mails to Cobargo, had the misfortune to collide with another motorist on the Prince’s Highway near Narooma. Had it not been for Mr. Duncan’s usual carefulness on nearing blind corners, the accident might have been more serious. Mr. T. Mitchell, of the sawmill, very kindly placed his Dodge car at Harry’s disposal, and the mails arrived at the scheduled hour. The time has arrived when the Shire must improve the roads at such blind corners.
Mary Foreman, of the Dwyer’s Creek Public School, has been awarded an entrance into Wollongong High School.
The local police made a smart capture on Tuesday last. Two individuals posing as employees at Dorman, Long’s quarry walked into a well-known business house in the morning and ordered goods which was supplied to them by an employee. Becoming suspicious the proprietor informed Constable Morgan, with the result that the “long arm” soon made its presence felt and the culprits given their deportation tickets.
The Moruya Progress Association has been pressing the Public Works Department re the necessity for dredging the crossing at Moruya Heads. Mr. C. Carter, the secretary, has received a communication from Mr. Perkins, M.L.A., to the effect that the Department has notified him that the Dredge Latona is now at the Heads for the purpose of giving relief on the crossing. The Latona is also dredging near the wharf so as to allow the boat to swing freely.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Constable, of the “Examiner,” left for the North on Tuesday, on an extended holiday.
Mr. Jas. Turnbull, the genial host of the Criterion Hotel, has joined the ranks of motorists. He has purchased a Rugby car.
Mr. A. A. Byrne, of “Waincourt,” Eurobodalla, has been notified by the Education Department that his daughter, Noeline, has gained admission to the Parramatta High School.
