On Saturday night last the death took place at the local hospital of a little boy aged 4 years, youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. French, of Mogo. The cause of death was gastritis.

Mr. Horex Read, of Haxtead Farm, Central Tilba, passed away at midnight last Thursday at the ripe age of 86 years. Deceased, who was a bachelor, was one of the pioneers of Tilba, having come there just after Mr. S. W. Bate. Mr. Ritchie Read, of Kent Farm, is a nephew, and Mr. Burgess, who it is said, started the first paper in Bega, was a brother-in-law of deceased. The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon, the Rev. Herd, of Moruya, officiating.
Mr. A. W. Constable and others who signed a petition to our Shire Council to have repairs made to Congo Road, are in receipt of the following from Mr. W. Jermyn, Shire Clerk: – “In reply to your petition dated 27th October, re repairs to the above road, I have been instructed by my Council to ask if any of the petitioners will be good enough to give any assistance in carrying out the work. Thanking you in anticipation for an early reply.” So far three of the petitioners, Messrs. R. N. Bull, J. Staunton, and A. W. Constable have promised to give assistance by each contributing 10s towards paying for the work.
The directorate of the Moruya Co-operative Dairy Co. has received notice that in accordance with the 1915 Act, the cheese factory at Gundary must be brought up to the standard. The Managing Director, Mr. R. B. Heffernan, informs us that the matter is to be placed before the shareholders for discussion at an early date.
Quite a stir was caused here on Tuesday morning when the ‘Advance Guard’ of Dorman, Long and Co’s employees arrived in three special cars. They were met by the officers of the Eurobodalla Shire at the Council Chambers. With the exception of Mr. Martin, the Company’s manager in Sydney, the other gentlemen are only recent arrivals from Scotland. After luncheon had been partaken of an inspection of the granite quarry was made, the officers expressing themselves as highly delighted with appearance of the stone. Messrs. Gilmore, quarry manager, Morrison and Davidson, assistants, with their families, have since been busy ensconcing themselves in the cottages rented to them by Messrs. Preddey and Jenner. Mr. Blake, chief civil engineer, will not reside here, having leased a house at Killara.Mr. W. Colefax has been appointed by Dorman, Long and Co. as timekeeper and teller at Pompey Point quarry works.
