The Agricultural Dept’s. expert warns growers against manuring tomatoes until the first fruit has set on the plants. When the plants are in full bearing and the fruit is swelling, liberal applications of liquid manure and fertilizer are required.

The Secretaries, Mrs. J. Heffernan and Miss M. Corbett, and their co-workers should be heartily congratulated on the phenomenal efforts on behalf of St. Mary’s Convent Fund. The balance-sheet in connection with the recent Rose Ball and competitions read at a meeting on Thursday night showed a net result of £173 11s. This certainly constitutes a record for the takings at the annual effort for the Convent.

It is proposed to name Currowan Creek and Bateman’s Bay as a polling place within the division of Eden-Monaro.

Mr. E. Windley, Mrs. D. A. McIntosh, of Moruya, and Mrs. S. Veitch, of Mogo, received the sad intelligence on Wednesday of the fatal accident to their father at Lismore. The deceased was employed by Terania Shire Council to cart metal from the crusher. At the stone chute, when standing on the shaft of his vehicle, he slipped between the shaft and the horse. … The horse bolted and Mr. Walter Windley slipped to the ground, and the cart, half loaded with metal, passed over his body. The deceased, who was 66 years of age, leaves five sons and three daughters. Sadness is added to the tragedy in that it will be remembered a son was also killed by accident near Bateman’s Bay some time ago.

The Mogo Hotel 1900

Under promising conditions, the Church of England’s Carnival and Exhibition was opened in the Amusu Theatre by Rev. Payn Lewis of Bodalla, on Saturday afternoon last. At night the building was brilliantly illuminated by electric lights. … Each evening a delightful musical programme was rendered by our local artists. The fete was brought to a grand finale on Monday night by the crowning of the successful candidate of the queen competition. Miss Sylvia Luck and Miss Marie Preddy, and their gorgeous retinue, with heralds in full array, marched to the accompaniment of the “Cathedral Chimes” played by Mr. Preddy. Miss Sylvia Luck was announced by Herald Keith de Saxe and crowned by Mr. Fowler who declared her “Queen of the Festival.”
