Latest reports state that the condition of the Director of the Commonwealth Immigration Bureau, Mr. Lionel J. Hurley, formerly of Moruya, and son-in-law of Mr. S. W. Bate of Central Tilba, is improving. Mr. Hurley was accompanying Mr. Penleigh Boyd, the noted Australian artist in a motor car, which over-turned on Prince’s Highway, near Warragul, Vic., Mr. Boyd being killed. [Lionel Hurley was the former owner/editor of the Moruya Tilba Times newspaper 1898-1911.]

Flying foxes are being put to good use. The fur is bringing high prices in some parts of the world.

On December 1 the Bodalla Company relinquished the distribution of its own cheese, it having transferred its marketing arrangements to the Coastal Farmers’ Co-op. Society, Ltd.

The following team of riflemen will represent Bergalia in a friendly match against Narooma on the Bergalia range to-day (Saturday): – H. F. Hutchings (capt.), A. Clarke, Lance Sly, N. Sly, H. P.  Jeffery, Geo. Sly, A. W. Greig, R. Greig, S. C. Shumack, F. Toose, J. S. Greig, and J. Donnelly.

At the London College of Music examination held in Moruya on Monday, eight pupils presented themselves for the examination, … Following are the results : – Primary- Olga McIntosh 88, Ernest Bartlett 86, both being pupils of Miss Imelda Bartlett. Elementary – May Emmott 90. Senior – Marie Preddey 85, Florrie Bartlett 87, Leila Jenner 90. Advanced Senior – Thelma Cheesman 88, pupils of Mrs. Preddey, A.L.C.M: – Primary – violin, Marie Preddey 95 out of 100, pupil of St. Mary’s Convent, Moruya. The teachers and pupils alike are deserving of the highest praise on the excellent results achieved.

The attention of the Shire Council is directed to the large quantity of loose metal lying on many parts of the Moruya-Bodalla road. Teamsters state that their horses hoofs are being injured through this cause. One animal had to be taken to the black-smith this week for attention.
